We are investigating trace metal microbiology in anaerobic biotechnologies. You can see an example of our work here:
Fernando G Fermoso, Gavin Collins, Jan Bartacek, Piet NL Lens (2008). Zinc deprivation of methanol fed anaerobic granular sludge bioreactors. Journal of industrial microbiology & biotechnology 35(6), 543-557
Continuing research is seeking new ways to intervene in mixed-species microbial communities to optimise trace metal availability and uptake, as well as investigating the microbiology underpinning trace metal discharge from biotechnologies into the environment.
We recently joined a European COST network on this topic. You can see more details of the COST European Network on Ecological Functions of Trace Metals in Anaerobic Biotechnologies here.
