First days on Zambian sanitation field trip

Kanyama Compound, Lusaka, Zambia

I’m on day 2 of our field trip to Lusaka, Zambia. Yesterday, we met with colleagues at the University of Zambia to discuss our joint experiments on the Transforming Waste Project (www.transformingwasteproject.com). We also visited the site of the Water Trust / Water & Sanitation for the Urban Poor / BORDA  / WASAZA biodigester at Kanyama district in Lusaka. Africa map.001

Today, we accompanied the pit emptying team to a household, where we observed the emptying of a pit latrine and the transport of faecal solids back to the digester for treatment.

I did get to push one of the carts of shit back to the digester. Gavin sludge transport-GC
