Start of week at The Irish Times

So, first day of first full week at the newspaper done. I’ve finished, and e-mailed, my draft of a feature article on the positive side of biofilms, which I hope will make it into print (real print in the actual newspaper…!). Next, I fear, comes the red pen from the boss. I’ll see tomorrow morning, but I somehow don’t have a good feeling about this and think it might be back to the drawing board.

Here’s the danger, I think, with writing about something I know a fair deal about – I can’t always see the wood for the trees, as it were. There’s a bit of finding my way to the real story that will interest the readers yet before I’m finished this one!

Separately, it looks like there’ll be some opportunities for some web articles this week, so this will get me out of my uncomfortable comfort zone!

There was great fun today though – great spirits, lots of laughs and definitely no Monday blues at The Irish Times.

Tune in tomorrow…
