First Day at The Irish Times

Yesterday, I spent the day with Dick Ahlstrom, the Science Editor of the Irish Times, at the newspaper’s offices in Dublin. It was really great – Dick showed me around the newsroom and explained to me how news goes from the writers all the way through to the printers; I think I even understood some of it, too.

We discussed possible topics I might write about when I re-join for a few weeks later this month. Do watch out for some water, bioenergy and biofilm-related stories!

I’ll blog about the experience of being a Science Media Fellow when I do start properly; you can follow our lab website/blog by signing up (follow at microbialecophysiology.com). I’ll also tweet some bits: you can follow me @gcollinsgalway and our lab @MicroEcoPhys.

In the meantime, you should also keep up with daily science news from the Irish Times at http://www.irishtimes.com/news/science
